Reduce Reuse Recycle

11/11/2011

Hi Auburn North,

Have you seen the new recycling station at the top of F block?

Mrs Kalic and Miss Ireland have started a recycling station for students and teachers to reuse and recycle everyday items.

Already, students have reused egg cartons, wool, scrap coloured paper, plastic bags, water bottles, wrapping paper, cards, scrap material, bottle caps and meat trays for constructing 'eco friendly houses', for art and craft and for measuring devices.

Students are encouraged to bring everyday items from home to the recycling station. Make sure materials are clean and bottles are washed.

Well done to students and teachers for doing their bit for the environment.

Hello Stage 2,

What fantastic work 4/3 R, Miss Robertson and Mrs Cheung did today in the Library!
This term they have been working on literary descriptions  and today they wrote a joint construction (meaning they wrote it together) describing the horrible Mrs Twit!

It was so fantastic I have asked Shihab to post it here so you can all read it.
As you read see if you can find:
  • a simile (easy peasy)
  • a noun group (2 adjectives before a noun)
  • direct speech (look for these " ")

If you are feeling really clever see if you can spot the complex sentences (look for 'which' or 'who').

Feel free to send in your own descriptions, or see if you can identify the language features listed above.

Mrs Protogeros had a great time working on literary descriptions today with Year 4. I loved her description of Mr Twit and her very clever drawing.

'Mr Twit smelt like an old boot'

What similes did you think of today?

Why not share them here? Click on the comments link at the top of this post.

Year 4 created this Wordle about the different parts of a book. What is it describing? Fiction of course!
Can you locate these things on the book you are reading now?

If you want to create your own wordle you can find the link on the Web 2.0 tab. It's easy to do. Click on 'Create' and have a go. It's fun, fun, fun!
