Book Week Character Parade Ideas

Hi Auburn North,

Are you stuck for an idea for your Bookweek character?
Kubra sent in a great question about wanting ideas for the Character Parade.
It got me thinking that perhaps a few of you were also wondering what to dress up as.

Have a look at Mt Gambier Public School in South Australia to get you thinking.

Still stumped?

Remember the theme for BookWeek is 'One World, Many Stories', so think of characters from cultures around the world to inspire you.

Animals are a great option- particularly with the help of a little face paint.

Be clever. You don't need to spend money to dress up. You could come as William from 'It's Bedtime William' by wearing your PJ's and bringing a pillow!

If you have a great idea, please post it in!

Hi Auburn North,

Book Week is fast approaching and will be celebrated in week 6, ( 22nd-26th August). I hope you are as excited as I am.

We have some exciting activities planned:
  • Mystery Readers
  •  K-2 Character Parade and Assembly
  • 3-6 Character Parade and Assembly
  • Reader's Theatre Performances ( I know you are working hard on these)
  • Class Art Displays of the Shortlist in the ANCLIC
  • Colouring Competition
Parents, grandparents, friends and relatives are all invited to share the morning with us as we celebrate our shared love of books and reading ( Wednesday 24th August).

Who are you going to dress up us?
Who do you think your mystery reader will be?

Have a look on the Bookweek tab to the right to see how we celebrated Bookweek last year.

And the Winner is...

Hi Auburn North,

The winning books have been announced and you can view the complete list here.
Did your favourite win?

I really liked 'Bear and Chook by the Sea' as it was a wonderful story about friendship. However, I really liked 'The Terrible Plop' and 'Kip' was fun to read out loud.
'Fearless' was hilarious, as he was anything but his name, and'The Wrong Book' had clever illustrations to help tell the story. 'Clancy and Millie and the Very Fine House' reminded me of 'Amy and Louis', another fantastic story about friendship.
It must be a really hard job to be a judge.
Did your favourite win?
You can vote on the poll below. It's easy to do. Just click on the button next to the title and then click 'vote'.
The hard part is only choosing one book!

K-2 Book Week Character Parade

Hi Auburn North,

Wednesday morning's assembly was a little bit different to normal. All sorts of weird and wonderful book characters were there to greet the students.
Can you see your teacher?
Can you guess the story book they are from?

It you are really clever, you may even know the author!
After morning assembly a mystery reader came to the classes to read their favourite story.
Who came to your class? What did they read?
After all that excitement we finished our morning with a Kindy character parade in the hall. Red Riding Hood asked us who we were dressed as.
We had lots of fun dancing to the music.
Thank you Mrs Saleh for organising the parade.
Stage 1 and Stage 3 enjoyed buddy reading. Some classes enjoyed reading their stories outside in the shade.
Many thanks to the parents who attended and for preparing such fabulous costumes for our students.
I can't wait until next year!

Hi Auburn North,

Wow! So many of you have returned your permission note for the free author visit and all sound very excited. I am too.

After each of the authors speak, there is question time.
If you have a question you would like to ask the authors, please send it into the blog. I'll read them and nominate students to ask their questions on the day.

So what are you wondering?? If you have any questions for me about the afternoon you can ask here too.
