Parent Workshops #2

Hi everyone,
We had a great session this afternoon looking at how to access the DET portal from home.
The DET Portal houses Learning Links, Library Enquiry (including 'Links for Learning'), TALE ( Teaching and Learning Exchange) and student email accounts. This proved to be the most exciting by far!

There are a number of ways you can access the portal from home.
  • Click on 'Links for Kids' on the left hand side panel and the link to 'Kidspace' is there.
  • Google using the key words 'det portal'and click on the link that says  'My Portal Login Page'.
  • Copy and past the URL portal.det.nsw.edu.au. into your browser.

All students have a username and password.

Their username is their firstname.surname
All letters must be lowercase and must have a fullstop between the first and surname.

You will need to ask your child about their password as it is TOP SECRET!!

If your child is not sure of their password then they can come to the Library on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday morning and I will reset it for them.

There is a wealth of information available to parents and students so please come and ask if you need help accessing.

If you missed todays session, we can do a quick recap next Monday.

Thank you parents who attended today's session. Your input and enthusiasm was fantastic.

I'll update with some photos soon.

Please note the Link to:
  •  Christine's Blog ( Happenings at Harmony House)
  •  The School Website
on the right hand side under 'Quick Links'.

Regards,

Cathy

Hello Auburn North,
Have a look at the photos of our parents learning in the Library. We had a great afternoon looking at the Library Links website and planning for our next few workshops.

Parent workshops will run for the next 5 weeks on a Monday afternoon from 2.00pm-3.00pm.
All welcome. Dads too!

See you there.

Thanks to NSWTL List Serve for this link
Hello readers,

Ocoee Middle School in the States have put together this fabulous song which will make you want to turn off the TV and READ!

I have a sneaky suspicion we will hear more of this song sometime this term...at an assembly perhaps?

What do you think of it?

Have you read any of the books shown in the clip?

Pick up that book!
And turn the page!
You'll never know
Just what you'll find
Information or fantasy
Drama and Art
All make you...SMART!

Mrs Clift

Mrs Protogeros had a great time working on literary descriptions today with Year 4. I loved her description of Mr Twit and her very clever drawing.

'Mr Twit smelt like an old boot'

What similes did you think of today?

Why not share them here? Click on the comments link at the top of this post.

Year 4 created this Wordle about the different parts of a book. What is it describing? Fiction of course!
Can you locate these things on the book you are reading now?

If you want to create your own wordle you can find the link on the Web 2.0 tab. It's easy to do. Click on 'Create' and have a go. It's fun, fun, fun!

So, what exactly do we do in the Library?

Ever wondered what it is that we do in the Library?

Kindy have been using the Interactive White Board (IWB) to learn new words. We have been reading and writing words that we find on our body. This week we learnt arm, leg, hand and face.

You can practise the activity by clicking on the Kindergarten tab and scrolling down to the heading ME. Or you can click here.
Good luck!

This Term we will also be reading books by Nick Bland.
We will read:
Donald Loves Drumming
The Very Cranky Bear
When Henry Caught Imaginitis! ( I'd love to catch that!) and
A Monster Wrote me a Letter.

Which is your favourite book so far and why?
