Hi Auburn North,
What fun we had during National Simultaneous Storytime. Students, teachers and parents read the wonderful storybook, The Brothers Quibble, by Aaron Blabey.
We then made friendship hands, bracelets, masks and crowns so we could 'rule the roost' just like Stanley. Click on the tab NSS so you cna see how we have celebrated NSS in the past.

Paint Auburn REaD:

What is Paint Auburn REaD?

What is Paint Auburn REaD is a joint community early intervention project to support the development of children’s early literacy skills in Auburn LGA and is auspiced by Auburn Diversity Service Inc (ADSi).

Its aim is to encourage all levels of the community to support the development of local children’s early literacy skills from birth, so that they will develop a love of learning and be ready for reading and writing at school.

We invite all parents with children from birth to school age to attend the READING DAY on Thursday 6th November from 9.30 to 12noon.  Please meet at Auburn Town Hall at 9.30am. We will have a magic show and the children will be singing nursery rhymes. The children and parents will be encouraged to participate in a “Story Walk” where 19 local businesses are involved in having pages of a story displayed on their windows that will be read to the groups walking by. This event will conclude at Auburn Central with the amazing Auburn West Public School drumming group.

The partnerships have expanded to include with local businesses in Auburn, Auburn hospital, Regents Park, and Lidcombe library.

The organising committee has representatives from three local public schools: Auburn North, Auburn West and Auburn Girls High, Auburn Council and well as local community service providers.

How can I find information on the Internet?

Hi Auburn North,
Have you heard of Information Literacy (IL)? Not sure what it means?
Information Literacy is the ability to define, locate, select and use information from a variety of sources.

The following graphic from easybib explains the ABCs of Information Literacy.

Stage 2 are researching a sea creature using this process. They have a great question they would like to find out like:

What do Dugongs eat?
How big can sharks grow?
Why does a dolphin have a bottle nose?
What does a shark's skeleton look like?
What do blacktip reef sharks eat?

We are using the following success criteria to guide our learning.
learning_intention_lesson4.docx
File Size: 729 kb
File Type: docx
Download File

Students then use key words to search for information using the '+' symbol.

Great search engines for students can be found here:
http://www.anpslibrary.com/research.html

Note taking is so important. Students are also learning to acknowledge their source by locating the name of the website and the date it was published.

Check back in to see examples of stage 2 work when they present their findings. I can't wait to read what they find.

Hi everyone,
Have you visted the ANCLIC before school lately? The ANCLIC is always a hive of activity with students, teachers and parents learning together. Chess, puzzles and lego are popular activites, as are the computers, whiteboards and reading.
The Library is open every morning from 8.30am.
We hope to see you soon.
