Hi Auburn North,

This week is a very exciting week for the Auburn North Learning  Community as we celebrate Community Festival Day. This year we  are also celebrating and acknowledging 30 years of Community Languages in NSW Public Schools and our fabulously talented Arabic teacher, Ms Francis, has written a poem which was inspired by Auburn North students after CFD in 2009.

You will hear the poem during our concert on Thursday but it is so special and reflective of our school and community it needs to be shared and celebrated.
Ms Francis, what an amazing talent you have. Thank you for your beautiful poem.

Auburn North, the mixture of colours

Auburn…..This is your day!
Where all colours from around the world
Come together.... singing.... dancing to celebrate.
Music fills the place…. making life as beautiful
As roses picked from blossoming gardens
Where all young flowers sway to the rhythm

Happiness is vivid in their eyes
Enough to quench a thirsty heart
To give love, light and warmth
It chases away sadness paving way
For Gladness all around.

Harmony, compassion and happiness
Comes from those people who chose to come
And those who were forced to flee
From faraway they came
To the land of grace and plenty
Where all civilizations and cultures meet
Holding hands in unity

Blossoms were dancing, singing and
Embracing the spirit of freedom
No weapons of mass destruction
No Kalashnikov or Molotov
Could stop this embrace…
Because life does not accept
Humiliation and oppression

Innocent souls …. Stand hand in hand
From the heart of black, yellow and white continents
No matter where they have come from
Coasts, mountains or deserts
All cheering and shouting
'Australia is my country….
This is my country….this is my county
This is my country!'

To those who value the freedom
Welcome to Australia
We’re going to show you all
What we have…….
Young teaches old:
How to live in peace and harmony
How to get over oppression and racism.
And how to accept one another.
The children’s eyes show this satisfaction
Eyes that are looking forward despite the sadness of the past
Those blossoms are our stories
Our present….
Our future......
And our never ending dreams……….
